Woodland Friends

Is a 20-page book for young children, written and illustrated, in colour, by Victoria when she was eight years old. 

“Once upon a time, in a wood not very far from here, lived a lot of woodland friends.  They are very happy together and the book is about them and the things they do.”  This is the first paragraph, along with a picture of all of the characters.

Fabling's Fables

This 63-page book, which is suitable for all ages, contains 18 short stories, each one leading to a meaningful conclusion. The fables are presented in large print on good quality paper with black and white illustrations, all but one drawn by Zoe Klymiuk-Turner.  Victoria drew The Bowlegged Dressing Table, and provides the following quotations from her introduction:

“I share, through this book of fables, ideas of how to resolve challenges and limitations put in place by the ego.  We can achieve literally anything – as children who believe in stories know.”

“A fable is a brief, succinct story, featuring animals, plants, inanimate objects or forces of nature which are given human qualities.  The objective is to illustrate a moral lesson which may, at the end, be expressed explicitly in a maxim.”

The World is Your Success

Is essentially a self-help book, originally published in 1997 in England.  Victoria has just re-published this using Canadian English and metaphors.  She uses the wisdom in this book as a daily self-help guide not just for others, but for herself. 

The re-writing process itself is testimony enough to show that it builds self-esteem, and reminds us all that the answers are not outside ourselves in some expensive seminar.  We have all been ‘civilised’ into forgetting how bright we are, and this book doesn’t teach you, so much as it reminds you, of your brilliance.

You can purchase this in book form for $13 plus a small amount for shipping from Blurb Books.  The illustrations are in black and white by Charlotte Ashenden, and the paper is not bleached, which is deliberate – to save the Earth and you - some money.
